City of Stolen Magic

Penguin Cover Awards 2024

Redesign a cover

Book Cover Design

In my submission for the Penguin Cover Awards 2024, I crafted a cover for ‘City of Stolen Magic’ by Nazneen Ahmed Pathak, drawing inspiration from key themes such as the backdrop of Victorian London, the intrigue of suppressed magic, and inspired by works like ‘Where’s Wally’ and books by Jacqueline Wilson. My design revolves around the character Chompa, embarking on an adventurous journey through the city’s streets, inviting young

readers to join in a captivating search-and-find experience.

To add a tactile element, I hand-cut buildings and typography and incorporated watercolour-painted bricks for texture and visual cohesion. This entry represents my creative vision and attention to detail in crafting a cover that resonates with its target audience and captures the spirit of the story within. Below is also my original cover, which had hand-drawn elements,
